The British Council is currently offering the following scholarships:

Pakistan Scottish Scholarship Scheme 2017-18.

APPLICATIONS OPEN

The Scottish Government is providing scholarship opportunities for young women from disadvantaged backgrounds to study at Masters Level in Pakistani Universities and is delighted to be supporting this scheme which is helping women in Pakistan achieve their potential and ambitions, helping to build a secure future for themselves and their families.
British Council Pakistan will administer the scheme in Pakistan and directly coordinate with the selected scholars and universities.

THE AWARD

Pakistan Scottish Scholarship Scheme will facilitate award-holders with the following incentives:
  • Tuition fee for Masters’ courses
  • University hostel costs
  • Subsistence to the award holder
  • Travel to and from home to university three times a year for students staying in on-campus hostels

SUBJECT AREAS

The scholarship will cover a Master’s degree at any HEC-recognised university of Pakistan in one of the following subject areas: 
  • Education
  • Sustainable Energy
  • Food Security and Agriculture
  • Health Sciences
  • STEM Engineering 

ELIGIBILITY

The following criteria must be met to be considered eligible for the scholarship:
  • Only female applicants can apply
  • Applicant should be a Pakistani national, currently residing in Pakistan
  • Undertaking a one or two-year Masters’ programme only
  • Applicant must hold a confirmed offer from a HEC-recognised university in Pakistan
  • Young women from rural areas are encouraged to apply

Pakistan Scottish Scholarship Scheme PhD Grant 2017-18

APPLICATIONS OPEN

The Scottish Government in collaboration with the British Council is providing PhD research travel grants to deserving female candidates. With the help of this travel grant, the candidate will get the opportunity to visit a university in Scotland to conduct their research or work on their dissertation.
British Council will administer the scheme in Pakistan and directly coordinate with selected scholars and universities.

THE AWARD

Pakistan Scottish Scholarship Scheme PhD Grant will facilitate the award holders with the following:
  • Travel expenses including return ticket to Scotland, visa fee and insurance
  • Living costs for a period of no more than three months

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All female Pakistani citizens who are currently residing in Pakistan and are enrolled in a PhD programme are eligible for application. In addition, the following criteria must be fulfilled:
  • Applicant must be pursuing a PhD in one of the following fields:
  1. Education
  2. Sustainable Energy
  3. Food Security and Agriculture
  4. Health Sciences
  5. STEM Engineering 
  • A duly filled out application form
  • Scanned copy of CNIC
  • Scanned copy of transcripts
  • Invitation letter from a Scottish University

Charles Wallace Visiting Fellowship Programme 2017-18
APPLICATIONS OPEN
The Charles Wallace Visiting Fellowship Programme provides assistance to mid-career professionals who wish to undertake short visits to the United Kingdom to broaden their professional knowledge, skills and contacts.
The fellowships may take the form of an attachment to a university department, professional institution, or arts centre.  Their two principal purposes are, firstly, professional familiarization and interaction; secondly, study and research. 
A fellowship may last for between three weeks and three months.  
Candidates should:
• be Pakistani nationals, residing in Pakistan, aged between 30 and 50
• have a firm offer (for the period of time applied for) from a UK institution.
• apply only in the subject areas listed below. Applications in other subject areas will not be considered.
The award
Award holders will receive a grant of £1,400 per month, and a contribution of £815 towards international travel costs. The award-holders are responsible to make all arrangements in the UK in consultation with their host university. 
Eligible subject areas
Eligible disciplines are as follows: Social Sciences, Social Development, Humanities, Education, Arts & Creative Industries, Environmental Sciences, and Health Sciences.

The Charles Wallace- University Of Oxford Fellowship.
The Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust will sponsor one scholar or practitioner from Pakistan as a visitor to the Department of Politics and International Relations for one Oxford term in the 2017-2018 academic year.
The fellowship will enable a Pakistani academic or professional to undertake a short working visit to the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations, with the aim of broadening their professional knowledge, skills and contacts. The content of a fellowship normally takes the form of professional interaction, study and research. 

WHAT IT IS 

The Charles Wallace Visiting Fellowship to the Department of Politics and International Relations is sponsored by the Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust, in cooperation with the British Council in Pakistan. The duration of the Fellowship is up to three months, and the Visiting Fellow is expected to be in residence for one Oxford term of the 2017-2018 academic year. 
The purpose of the fellowship is to advance the understanding of contemporary problems and issues facing Pakistan across a broad range of themes. 
An all-inclusive monthly stipend of £1,400 is offered by the Trust in order to cover costs at Oxford, together with a return economy air fare from Pakistan.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is a scholarship scheme that enables students from Commonwealth countries to study in other Commonwealth countries. The scheme has been helping students develop their education since 1959 (over 21,000 Scholarships have been awarded during this time). The fund is managed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), on behalf of the UK government.

SCOPE OF STUDY 

  • One-year taught master's course
  • PhD
  • Six-month fellowship
  • Distance learning
  • Split-site scholarship 

WHAT DOES CSFP COVER? 

  • Economy travel airfare
  • Visa processing fee
  • Tuition fee
  • Maintenance and other allowances, during the study period

ELIGIBILITY 

Candidates must:
  • Be a Pakistani citizen, residing in Pakistan
  • Hold a first degree of upper second class Honours standard (or above), or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Have taken the IELTS English language test. 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

Applications are considered according to the following selection criteria: 
  • Academic merit
  • The quality of the proposal
  • The likely impact of the work on the development of the candidate’s home country. 
Scholarship 
Firstly, the candidates are shortlisted based on their application and later they are further assessed through personal interviews. This phase of selection is conducted in Pakistan, by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). 
Fellowship 
Nominations for the prospective fellows are required to be sent to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), from respective institutions and organisations. The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) London does the final selection on the basis of the nominations sent by the HEC.
